No dig

I have been wanting to use no dig since I started here, as the evidence supporting it as a better method of cultivation is very strong. However the level of bindweed root (about 50% per forkful in some areas) meant I have tried to dig over most areas at least once. So this bit, which had got a bit wild this summer has now been cleared of stray pots and other bits, the weeds have been cut down to ground level and 2-3 layers of cardboard. The next step will be to add 3-4 inches of compost and then I can get planting.
I also spent some time taping up an old water butt in the hope that it won't leak anymore. Now tape inside and out and hoping this is enough. Next job will be moving water around so I can get the butts lined up in the right order to maximise water collection. Hoping it is still holding water tomorrow.
