A long smile on freedom

I was delivering goods to the charity shop as the big clear out and preparation for my Germany move goes on. After I delivered the goods I noticed the Nelson Mandela biography on the shelf and smiled. It always makes me smile. I read this book cover to cover in 2 days while travelling around India. 3 months later I was in Auckland and staying at the Aotea Square backpackers. The CHOGM (Commonwealth Heads Of Government ) meeting was being held right out side my window at the Aotea Square conf centre. On day 3 the protesters and curious had left and I just happened to be passing when out walked Nelson Mandela for a breather and decided to walk over to where i was. He came across to talk to just 5 or6 of us who happened to be there at the time. Just months after reading his book I knew I was meeting a living legend. I don't get starstruck or do celebrity but this man is quite simply the last of the living legends.
