Bob and Jeremy in Portland
I last saw them in person nine years ago, but we've been communicating once a month on Zoom since the pandemic began, and today they drove down from Vancouver, B.C. and will stay here tonight and tomorrow on their way south to the Ashland Shakespeare Festival and then on to San Francisco for a week or so. Being with them is a great privilege, as there have been health crises, and several times we feared we had seen each other in person and alive for the last time...but no. This gift. More time to enjoy each other.
This photo was made on the rooftop terrace of the hotel where they're staying. The weirdness above their heads is a glass sculpture, with an outdoor heater to its right. The odd round light at the front of Bob's forehead is the moon. The high-rise building to the right is the building where I live. As you can see, the hotel is wonderfully placed for our visit.
They will meet Sue for the first time tomorrow, and they will drive away Tuesday morning, as Sue and I will be heading for the airport. Then the day after Sue and I return from our Last Big Trip, they will also return (so the plan goes) and they'll stay four days in the same hotel, and then drive north to their home.
