Hooray!
After years of listening to this popular reel at sessions and jams and not being able to catch the dulcimer players' hammering patterns I am finally tackling it. The 'A' part is simply an e minor scale and arpeggios of C, D and e minor and a strict R, L hammering pattern works well. One of the quirks of the hammered dulcimer is that some of the notes are duplicated so if the note you want can't be hit comfortably in one place it's duplicate will invariably work. That's today's something new (to me) learnt. I'll tackle the 'B' part later.
Here is a performance by Karen Alley, former National Hammered dulcimer Champion and a University of Manitoba professor; and Mark Alan Wade, a classically trained professional musician (trumpet) playing fiendishly fast.
