Never Trust the Family Doctor
We went to a talk tonight at the Galmpton local history Society. The subject was ‘Agatha Christie and her poisons’ by Janet Sellick. She said ‘ Never trust the family doctor’ was one of the lessons you learn from reading Agatha’s books. It was very atmospheric to think that we were sitting in Galmpton village Hall, a room Agatha herself sat in many times. Our chairman said he was tempted to drop a glass in a quiet moment. Agatha immersed herself in village life when she was staying at Greenway mansion nearby. Here she was known as Mrs M, the wife of Max Mallowan, an archaeologist. ‘ Married to an archaeologist, the older you get the more interested they are in you.’ It was a great talk. The stamp is one of those issued in 2016 to commemorate her birthday. The design is very clever and implies the mystery inherent in the book. Can you see Hercule Poirot?
