Kirkyard Jigsaw
With the aid of the local family history society guide to Culsalmond Kirkyard we searched out the grave of Mary Hamilton which, according to the guide has the poignant inscription - ' In memory of Mary Hamilton who was born at Sheelagreen of unknown parentage and died at Mellanside 6 April 1882 aged 90.'
Unfortunately, the stone is badly weathered and only this quotation from Psalm 27 remains:
'When my father or my mother forsake me then the Lord will take me up.'
The broken fragments of stone from the rest of the inscription were lying in the grass and we spent sometime piecing them together.
The hand symbol at the top of the stone is particularly apt - it represents the hand of God reaching down from heaven.
