George Carnegie's 'Harbour'

The coast here is all volcanic rock. When we walked past this section, yesterday, the Minx said it looked like someone had carved a harbour there, which seemed pretty unlikely to me.

But she was right. In 1803, an enterprising fellow called George Carnegie built it to facilitate the transportation of the lime that his business produced. Well, I say he built it; no doubt he had some labourers doing the cold, wet, and dirty work.

In the evening, we returned to The Anchor Hotel for dinner. Despite it being a Wednesday evening, we were lucky to get a table and, now that I've eaten there, I can see why. Ten out of ten!
