Mushroom
I just did some light gardening today, mowed the lawn, cut the thyme back from the stepping stones and cut back some shrubs. Whilst the temperature was quite warm, it didn't feel it due to the strong wind, and now the rain has arrived. I also ordered a large flask, hot water bottle and wearable blanket from Amazon should we get the power cuts this winter that are being flagged as a possibility.
Day 932 / Day 223 of no Legal Covid Requirements in England (for my record only)
The weekly ONS infection survey of private households up to w/e 26th Sept showed UK cases rose 25% in the last week and are now 1.3m. There's a marked increase in infections in the over 70's, with only 45% of people over 75 have had the autumn booster to date. People with symptoms of an upper respiratory virus are asked to stay away from the elderly and vulnerable. There's an estimated 1 in 50 with the virus in England (up); 1 in 45 in Scotland (uncertain); 1 in 50 in Wales (uncertain), and 1 in 40 in NI (up). The number of people in hospital in England with the virus is up 37% from the previous week. Covid hospital admissions have increased in all 9 Regions of England, with 3 nearly back to the levels experienced during the July peak. The expected early rise of flu has yet to happen. The first primary hearing was held this week at the Covid public enquiry, with the Chair saying those who have suffered loss will be at the heart of the enquiry. She defined loss as including the loss of friends and family members; the loss of good health - both mental and physical; economic loss; the loss of educational opportunities; and the loss of social interaction. She also said that 'Those who are bereaved lost the most. They lost loved ones and the ability to mourn properly.'
