Flying the plane

I accompanied some Grade 9 and 10 students for a day at the Mobile Newton Room at Eurocontrol for an “Up in the Air with Numbers” STEM field trip. The students were introduced to map reading and flight planning by Eurocontrol staff experts. They were then given a mission where they planned their flight in pairs and applied their plan on professional flight stimulators used to train pilots. Students were also introduced to air traffic control.
The only problem we had had was traffic, we anticipated traffic in the morning. However, we needed almost 3 hrs for a trip that should have taken 45 mins.
