Birthday Macarons
As my parents age, it gets harder and harder to buy gifts for them. Not because I can’t think of things to get them, I just don’t think “more stuff” is necessary just for the sake of a gift giving occasion. There are times that I think of the perfect gift, but when I can’t … I bake!
Today, I baked. I baked one of the hardest little confections that ever was. The classic French Macaron. Little buggers stumped me on round one - they clearly didn’t have enough drying time and slid off their feet in the oven. Baked into each other it was a pan-o-macarons. Still tasted amazing, just looked atrocious. Round two was the Cookies n’ Cream macarons. Those fared better than the first. But I forgot to add crumbled cookie to the buttercream. Round three…. Mastered. Classic French macaron with raspberry buttercream. Yum!
The best of the batch’s will be Moms birthday gift when we visit tomorrow at the Fryeburg Fair. She has hinted about me making them since they came home from Florida, which means, to her this may just be the perfect gift.
