Canadian Memorial Planting
For many years as I've been to-ing and fro-ing on the A3, I've seen a sign that says Canadian Memorial Planting. I've never stopped but this year, as the trees are turning a beautiful red, I decided to pull up in the lay-by and Blip this one.
On Googling the sign, I find out that there are around 400 maple trees either side of the road - one for each Canadian serviceman who died in WWI & WWII. There is an underpass to cross the main road safely. Each tree is twinned with a grave in Bramshott Churchyard and St Joseph's Church, Grayshott.
Bramshott was one of the largest training areas for Candian soldiers in the UK. As well as accommodation huts, the Camp had a bank, cafe, shop and cinema. The Canadian hospital tended those suffering from general sickness
as well as those wounded in the fighting.
I think a little trip to the graveyards would be in order.
