Roots and rocks
Today began an adventure to the mountains with the first stop being Mt Mitchell State Park on the Blue Ridge Parkway. We knew it was going to be chilly but we did not realize the wind would be blowing from the north at freezing! I actually bought a new over priced jacket/windbreaker because my little hoodie was totally inadequate. We walked the short walk to the observation tower and because the day was so clear I could see mountains that were 50 miles away.
The mountain has many balsam trees with the fragrance being fabulous. We walked the short nature trail was was full of large rocks and trees with roots above the ground. Very shady so there was also moss everywhere.
Then a drive south along the parkway to the mountain house. We did see some fall color in areas but not at peak color.
Tomorrow is a new adventure…on a train!
