Forbidden Fruit

So I was told. They should never be eaten straight from the tree. They need to rest awhile. I tell you what’s been resting awhile and that’s a bowlful of “home ripening” plums I bought over a week ago. The SK shook her head sorrowfully when I appeared home with them. Never buy home ripening plums, she said. What does she know, I thought. I’ll put 'em in a bowl in the sunniest place. I’ll move them round the room with the sun if need be. We’ll see! She’ll eat her words. She certainly won’t be eating the plums anytime soon. They may make a suitable alternative to turnip along with haggis and tatties. How long till Burns night?
