Power
Up on the hill above our garden this morning, taking photos of the ruined mills as water cascaded down the stream that used to power them, I couldn't help thinking what a waste of harmless power this is, in comparison with the electricity carried by the pylons in the distance. It's so sad that the municipality is allowing these beautiful old buildings to tumble down, while encouraging the building of new houses within sight of them.
An interesting Cercle Occitan lecture last night, although rather low-key delivery, about Jean Jaurès, socialist leader, anti-militarist, pacifist, supporter of regional minority languages such as Basque and Breton and speaker of Occitan. It was because of his pacifism that he was assassinated in 1914. A lively debate followed by an excellent meal, and we discussed many aspects, and misuse, of power with old friends and some new ones too.
Tonight we're going to see the new Almodóvar film, Los Amantes Pasajeros, which has had mixed reviews, including a far from glowing one from Veronica! Having always enjoyed his films, I'm going with an open mind.
