Musical

The four most recently listened to CD’s, three of which I’ve acquired this year.

Stacey Kent’s “ The Boy Next Door” is the oldest by some way. She’s got a great voice, these are great arrangements of standards.
L’Arpeggiata’s “ Alla Napolitina” is their latest, a double and it’s fab. We’ve got all their CD’s and seen them live in London (twice), Paris and Heidelberg.
Sean Shibe’s “Soft Loud” is contrasting, to say the least. Great up to Julia Wolfe’s LAD originally scored for nine bagpipes which is totally unhinging (not to be played when J is in the room).
And Public Service Broadcasting’s “Every Valley”. We saw them at the BBC Proms this year on the TV, a tremendous concert. Very mixed media, very different, and each of their CD’s is a themed project. This one focusses on the South Wales mining communities.

I love good music and still prefer CD’s to streaming. A shame concerts are out of bounds, nothing like live music. But there’s Jools Holland again on Friday night TV, and this week Young Musician of the Year on every night, which is some compensation.
