Calima
This should be a picture of the sunrise at around 7:30, but the sun didn't appear for another hour and a half.
There is a light Calima just now. Thats when air from the African mainland moves over the Canary Islands bringing microscopic dust particles mainly from the Sahara Desert.
If its a thick heavy one it can cover everything in a light film of dust/sand and reduce visibility drastically. This one isn't bad, so from around 9am you hardly know its there although there continues to be a bit of a haze over the sun and its also evident if you look out over the sea to the horizon.
