Local landmark

Afton House, built in 1800, is a rare survivor of a number of large houses that once lined our High Road. It’s now tucked away behind a parade of shops and has belonged to a veterans’ club for many years.
I had lunch in a nearby restaurant with Liz and Judy to celebrate J’s birthday. We were supposed to be visiting Coventry Cathedral but have postponed this owing to the train strike tomorrow. We were afraid that we might have trouble getting back late today. This must be the fourth time we have cancelled this trip! But the lunch was fun.
D went to his classics lecture on Alexandria and Pergamon early this morning.
