... nuthatches because they often pause and stare like this, providing a chance to capture a shot.

Contrast this with my extra shot of the treecreeper. Even when the rest of the body appears perfectly still, their frighteningly sharp bill keeps tapping rapidly (see the movement in my second extra). I didn't get another chance because that bird didn't return.
