Wastwater and Scafell and Scafell Pike
Todays image is from the top of Middle Fell the last of three Wainwrights ticked off today. The other two were Buckbarrow and Seatallan. We were guided and driven by friends Adam and Jane who know these mountains well. (and accompanied by their energetic, bouncy dog Brody) It’s a long journey from Keswick and a very wet one back.
It was a grand day in the fells hardly a soul about, blue skies, sunshine, keen breeze and wonderful visibility. The Isle of Man was very clear as was the southern coast of Scotland.
Although these three were not the highest fells in the western lakes they gave super 360 views of the more majestic and commanding mountains that encircle Wasdale: both Scafells, Yewbarrow, Lingmell, Great Gable, Kirkfell, Illgill Head, Caw, Haycock and Slight Side to name but some we could stand and admire. And that’s what we did at regular opportunities; stand and stare in awe at the elemental beauty all around.
We were expecting to eat at Wasdale Head after enjoying a couple of pints there. In the end we drove to the Scree and Strand at Nether Wasdale as there was a long delay in opening the kitchen at Wasdale Head. My, that ale tasted good.
