Sutton Hoo
Today we travelled to Woodbridge near where the site of Sutton Hoo is located.
From the Internet:
Sutton Hoo is the site of two medieval cemeteries from the 6th to 7th centuries. The site has been excavated since 1938, and a wealth of Anglo-Saxon artefacts have been discovered. The site has helped establish the history of the kingdom of East Anglia as well as documenting the history of the AngloSaxons which was previously largely unknown.
We took an hour long tour of the area, which was interesting, although I found it difficult to relate to what I was hearing, as the area is seen as large hillocks, or mounds, and a lot of what we were hearing is based on supposition, and guesswork, although educated guesswork.
The exhibition was very interesting and gave a lot of information and showed replicas of the treasures found there. Also told of the history of the Anglo-Saxons; I found it interesting that women had rights and a rightful place in society, being in charge of the household in all matters.
In the evening Louise and Ben came to dinner, with Fauna.... see extra collage
