A flame of dahlias

There are more impressive vases of dahlias around but I was happy to get a good bunch from the garden for my pot from Collioure. The Blue Bayou which have been very tatty all summer, eaten by something, have finally flowered properly and are a glorious colour. I chose them because they are meant to attract Peacock butterflies but I haven’t seen any on them.

A half day interviewing for the new Head of Development and then a dash to the hospital for the referral for my hand.  Which seem fine so it probably was doing too much typing.

Went over to Mum’s on the way back for a cup of tea and to pick her some dahlias (there’s a theme) from her garden. She echoes my father’s concern that you shouldn’t pick garden flowers but leave them out to give colour in situ but I pointed out that you can’t see the dahlias well from the house and they flower more if cut!  So she was pleased to have some pretty bunches from some left in the ground from last year which have flowered well without much attention.
