Ancient Oak
A lovely funny day resulted from a visit by our friend Sarah. I worked with Sarah at the bank and like me she has taken early retirement. She came this morning and spent the day with us. After tea, cake and a catchup we went for a two mile walk to show her our new playground.
Shropshire.
We walked, chatted, laughed and took photos. I took her to see the old church in the next village, which has a 12th century porch and 14th century stained glass windows.
As can be seen the old oak door and handsome iron furniture are many hundreds of years old, and still completely fit for purpose. Very impressive.
There was an incident involving me, a portaloo and some profanity. During which a very frightened vicar walked past and hurried into the church. I exited the portaloo ungraciously to be greeted by Sarah bent double and visibly quivering with laughter. Another anecdote for her memoirs.
We returned to tea and more cake and a few more laughs before Sarah had to return to her home in South Staffs.
Great to see her again and hear of her travels in retirement. She loves being abroad and has trips to Korea, and Australia planned, having already been to America and Wimbledon in recent months.
A very happy day.
