The dropped stitch

The holiday begins!

Off the ferry at 7am and met J for breakfast at her B and B.

A children's theatre company performer was breakfasting at the next table and was very chatty. A window into another world. Refreshing to listen to someone so dedicated and enthusiastic about their work.

A pleasant sunny day to be a tourist in Aberdeen.

We explored  Footdee, (Fittie), the former fishing village near the harbour. Rows of neat cottages and quirky sheds and gardens. It was a planned community, dating to early nineteenth century and built to house the city's fishermen.

Photo is of the 1895 assembly from Rattray Head Lighthouse. Glass lenses and prisms magnified and directed the light beam. The lens assembly turned on rollers driven by a clockwork mechanism. When Rattray Head Lighthouse was automated in 1982 this assembly was donated to the museum by the Northern Lighthouse Board.

Extras of Footdee and hardy folk enjoying the waves down at the beach.
