Postcard from Topsham
After breakfast at the Cabin by the beach, we set off just as the rain stopped.
Getting out of Cornwall was the hardest part of the journey today. Mainly due to the roadworks on the A 30 and the heavy traffic.
However the rest of the journey has been fine.
We stopped off in Topsham for a few hours.
We love this town on the river Exe.
Because of the trade with Holland the design of the houses have a lot of Dutch influence.
As always walked along the waters edge on a path called the “ Goat Walk” to Bowling Green hide. Some wonderful bird life around here. Just missed a Osprey which had been seen feeding in the estuary.
Still plenty of other wading birds to see, including some sleepy Spoonbills.
Passed the beautiful little cyclamen in the woodland glade.
First time ever we have seen the museum open, so went for a look inside and also enjoyed a delicious cream tea.
Photo of a model of HMS Terror built in Topsham. The ship had huge strength and endurance. The first to penetrate the polar ice in both hemispheres.
The other photo is the last Exe lugger. A type once used in the Exe Estuary for fishing and carriage of ‘ market goods’ and passengers between Exmouth , Topsham and Lympstone.
Weather very warm and sunny again!
Now staying in a B&B near Trowbridge.
Home tomorrow.
Thank you for all your kind comments, stars and hearts. Sorry behind with comments. Will catch up soon.
