Boats - Boats - Boats - Singapore Day 1

Decided to get away from the hustle of Vietnam - and as there were some days off including April 30th (Reunification day - when the Viet Cong captured Saigon ) and May 1st (Spring day, or International Workers day). For me it was just the right time to get away.

So this is the view when you arrive in Singapore - boats/container ships/oil tankers - this is what made Singapore the center of S.E. Asian trade, being at the crossroads between China direction Europe and Africa, there are probably millions worth of goods which pass it everyday. The official name of this passage is the "Singapore strait" - and its actually the busiest shipping channel in the world with some 3000 vessels per day passing its shores.

This movement of economic wealth in its waterways makes Singapore a center of gravity for traders, businesses and entrepreneurs alike - but there are many other reasons which make Singapore be known as the "Switzerland of Asia". A stable government (no political chaos), thought out public investments, world class education, rule of law, excellent public infrastructures such as the MRT, and of course the world class taxes (one of the lowest personal income taxes - progressive but fixed at maximum 20% and very low corporate taxes).

A lot of facts - but thats just Singapore a concentrate of prosperity, safety and entrepreneurship.

So in essence, arrived quite late to Singapore, and went straight to Clarke Quay, lets kindly say its one of Singapore's many watering holes. Very lovely evening.
