Wainui
After the glorious day yesterday, today is chilly and wet and you are getting part two of yesterday's adventures. After our trip to the cave at Rawhiti, we had an unexpectedly delicious lunch in Pohara. We stopped in the village shop and brought some pre-packed sandwiches and coffee - both excellent - and ate them overlooking the beach. Then we went on to Wainui, gasping at the mountain slippages that had occurred a few weeks earlier, literally cutting this area off for several days. The walk to Wainui waterfall is still blocked but we turned left and went to the beach. This is the start of the Abel Tasman track, you are welcomed in through a ceremonial arch - I'm sure it has a special name but I'm not sure what it is. The tide was out, the sand golden and full of sea dollars - flat little anemone type things digging in the sand. The colours and views were mighty. We were awe-struck. So much so we both flung caution to the wind and leapt in the sea. It was perishing but so invigorating. A first for Himself!
And later that evening there was an earthquake - 5.8 and giving quite a wobble!
Today we are preparing for the next birthday coming up - a certain person is about to be 4. Although her birthday is the 28th we are having her main day tomorrow and intend to go over the hill to Nelson where there is a small zoo, a big playground and an even bigger beach. Her request. She also has asked for a slice of cake with cream and strawberries to fit into her lunchbox! The baking will be starting shortly. No pressure.
