Lizard Point
Today was our last day in Cornwall. It wasn’t the glorious sunshine we have had every other day, but it was dry until about five ish so we can’t complain. We headed to Porthleven first for a mooch around before a crab sandwich (Sue) and a cream tea for me.
Next stop was Lizard Point. There were plenty of gift shops…some really nice, but expensive and some not so. We class them all as ‘tat shops’…we love a good tat shop and we indulged in a few bits n bobs.
We then parked near the lighthouse and walked down to the most southerly point of the country and did some seal spotting whilst we had our last Cornish ice cream (actually, only our second).
I wanted to have a final dip so we headed to Praa Sands. It was windy and starting to spit by then. There were a handful of people walking on the beach. I had a quick chat with the RNLI lifeguard and he said it was safe to go in…so I did. It was sooo choppy. It nearly knocked me over. I dipped then got out. For some strange reason Sue had opted to sit in the bar with a glass of wine instead of joining me lol. I had a cider after I’d dressed and then the heavens opened. I bought a cake and took it for the lifeguard for being so nice and because I was the only swimmer and he probably worried he might have had to get wet just before his shift ended. They do a great job so it’s nice to be nice lol
Last port of call was Penzance. We nipped into the amusement arcade to waste a pounds worth of 2ps. With our 75 tickets that we won we managed to get a plastic ring….the lads there felt sorry for us and let us have one each lol.
We had booked into the Admiral Benbow pub for dinner. It had been recommended as it is very quirky. It didn’t disappoint. It is like walking into the bow of an old wooden ship. It was fabulous.
We are up early and off to Gloucester.
