To Flash or not to flash...
Sylvester Jacobs is 78 and an internationally exhibited photographer and speaker. He specialises in unposed, natural photography - we often call this Street photography as a genre. Sylvester grew up in Oklahoma but moved to the UK in 1968. He has published a number of books during his career including Portrait of England, and Portrait of a Shelter.
The renowned French photographer, Henri Cartier Bresson, was a great influence on his work and he had the opportunity to spend time with him in Paris back in the 1970s.
It was great to have him be our guest at our Camera Club meeting where he critiqued some of our street photography images - very constructive, supportive and energising. He also agreed to be my model while I demonstrated how to use a simple speedlite to create a more formal portrait. The goal was to make the use of flash less scary for our club members.
A portrait image will be posted next time.
