Wattle for the Queen

Today was a public holiday, our day for mourning the Queen.   There was a service in Canberra at Parliament house which from the look of it had all our Governors General both Federal and State, the majority of which were women. Now that says something doesn't it. It also had politicians and probably many diplomats.  A simple service in memory of the Queen.  At the heart of it was a painting of the Queen which is known as the Queen Elizabeth II Wattle painting. 

In the painting, the Queen is wearing a golden gown decorated in wattle designed by Norman Hartnell.  Her portrait was painted by William Dargie in 1954.  The Queen visited Australia in 1954 and wore the gown when she was here.   A link to more about it is here.

Very thoughtful wearing a wattle motif, our national flower don't you think.  So on my walk with Maggy today, after the showers, I picked some wattle and tea tree in King Edward park for today's blip in memory of the Queen. 

I heard also that many First Nation people throughout the country had demonstrations today against the monarchy and Colonisation.   We have a long way to go in reconciliation.  A step at a time, a step at a time.
