A public holiday here, with a strange Sunday feel to it. Streets, pubs, restaurants and cafes busy; banks, libraries, museums and some small businesses closed. In Marrickville a hastily finished mural of QE11 had been defaced, first with “a hideous word” which was erased by street angels, then last night overpainted with the colours of the Aboriginal flag, the red dripping.

A late afternoon cider at Brickworks Brewing, the next best thing to a walk in the park.
