Eyemouth Harbour

A while ago when stuck in traffic on the A1 we put off a visit to Eyemouth in favour of pottering round the Border and East Lothian.

Today we packed a picnic and set off early, drove along a clear A1 and spent the day in Eyemouth and Burnmouth.

In conversation with a retired fisherman near the harbour we learned that the many boats in the there were registered elsewhere - we spotted two from Kirkwall, one from Stornoway and a lot from Leith. He also had much to say about the catch that foreign boats take and the regulations regarding species, leading to wastage of the population.

After a stroll round the town we drove up behind Gunsgreen House and walked along the coastal path a short way, noting the rock formations there, before driving down to Burnmouth for a wander there.

Since we were relatively close we went down to Paxton to see how the restoration of the Union Chain Bridge was coming along, watching the workmen in their hi-viz overalls installing the roadway but there appeared to be quite a lot of work in progress on the southern tower so an opening date might be some way off.
