The End

(photo from TV)
The symbols of Monarchy - the Imperial State Crown, the Orb and the Sceptre - on the top of the late Queen’s coffin for the State Funeral today. It seemed the country stood still - all schools and many businesses closed (it is a Bank Holiday), the roads were deserted when I took the dogs out at 7.30am - normally people are heading out to work, and of course there are crowds of people in London. The hearse is now taking the coffin to Windsor for the final church service then a private interment in the family vault. The royal regalia is still on the coffin - it will be removed at the end of the service at Windsor and returned to the Tower of London.(see extra)
So, the end of the longest reign in the history of Britain and of  the Second Elizabethan Era. It is not certain what the next era will be called - the era of the earlier King Charles’ was called the Carolean Era but there are suggestions it may be the Windsor Era - no-one knows yet, historians will decide in due course.
Next thing will be the Coronation!.
God Save the King.
