Walter Way

Open Day here within a short walking distance from Stephen’s. It’s a development initiated in 1977 by Walter Segal as a way to solve council building more cheaply on a self build basis. 12 names were pulled out of a hat to take part and following Walter’s designs to build their houses using readily available materials from local building merchants on a 50/50 ownership basis with the option to buy in coming years in 10 per cent chunks. It was very jolly with food stalls and two houses open to see and hear about from occupants.
