Street Stuff.
Camera Club had presentation on Thursday night by Tony Bramley - Essex based photographer, titled "My Kinda Streets". Excellent presenter who did so much more than rattle through his very likely extensive catalogue. He carries out many workshops mostly in London locations.
Felt inspired to make an effort and try my hand in Southend High St. next day. No sooner had I arrived than a couple of likely subjects presented opportunities but as Tony mentioned - you've got to be quick and you've got to be prepared - I was neither! Hadn't even got my camera out at that point. Small camera, prime lens, know your settings, shoot manual, shoot from the hip or sometimes a discreet shoulder position were words buzzing in my ears. I think for a while I will be more comfortable with a seated position, a longer lens probably with a focal length already set and watch for subjects coming toward me. To be fair I walked the length of the High St. as I was also heading for a particular shop and randomly paused here and there to grab a shot but was nowhere near as slick as Tony. This busy backdrop (Barclays) was one that I paused at to take a shot - can't resist a dog - I thought the weird housing estate display with cashpoints gave an unnatural look. Chose to post this one today as I was amused to find this was same guy and dog that Stevvi had photographed -https://www.blipfoto.com/entry/3003506347615455781
I will give it a few more tries obviously without dog in tow. Discreetly taken close up shots of passing strangers is a long way off but it'll be fun trying ...I think!
