Everyday I Write The Book

Game on

I had the afternoon off work as I was supposed to meet an old Uni friend for our annual reunion (our birthdays are four days apart) but he had to cry off, so Strider took me out instead. We had burger and beers in Brew Dog at Waterloo and then went to Draughts under the arches to play board games.  They have hundreds of games there (see extra) and you can eat and drink whilst you play. As well as scrabble we played Star Wars Carcassonne (I never even knew that existed).

Was back in Woking by about 6.30 so went to the Slug and Lettuce for leaving drinks for a colleague of TSM’s, which was quite uproarious and good fun. I was on my worst behaviour when wickedly describing some of my experiences of a forty year NHS career. Met a guy who runs a monthly gay board games evening which I found quite inspiring. Maybe I’ll start an old man’s board game club.

Then we bought a takeaway for TSM, who hadn’t eaten, and went home to play kalooki. I am finally on a winning streak after having fallen nine games behind.

I stayed up with a nightcap to watch episode four of the latest Lord of the Rings spin off on Amazon Prime, which isn’t TSM’s cup of tea. She was mortally wounded (psychologically) by the end of the Peter Jackson trilogy and had to be dragged from the cinema screaming "just throw the f***ing ring in the fire". It was quite a long and drawn out ending, I admit. But I’m still a LOTR fan and this series has some good characters and themes  in it. I suspect the next few episodes will pick up the pace. Expect more severed orcs heads and inter species politicking.

Good day. Beer and games and middle earth. Who could ask for anything more?
