Here and Now

Roaming the Countryside

I took the hazardous cans, the old lawnmower, and dead electronics out to the Geauga County Waste Management Facility.  All new buildings have gone up for county services along Merritt Road.  Unbelievable, since we were there last fall and none of it was there!  I stopped at the Dog Warden's Animal Shelter and found sweet doggies, but left feeling sad about them.

Main shot:  out the car window on Butternut Road.  Privately owned land and pond.

Extra 1:  I ventured over to check out Butternut Maple Farm.  What a treat that was!  I was warmly greeted by the owner, Pierre who gave me a tour. I ended up buying two homemade birdhouses and three jugs of maple syrup, some for us and some for gifts.  I was given a free baseball cap! :) The beautiful building where they process the maple syrup was built by family and friends with fallen trees in the area.  50 gallons of syrup collected from the trees results in 1 gallon of syrup once the water is removed.  Some of the water is vented through the roof as steam and the rest is reused for the operation.

Extra 2:  Next stop was Veterans Legacy Woods for a walk.  I was the only one there.

I stopped at the Geauga County Extension office in the Patterson Building to see Eric, but he wasn't in.

Last stop was Peddler’s Corner. I never saw so many antiques and junk in one place. Brad from SCR came by. I’ll take butterfly bushes and other  perennials for him to plant at South Chagrin Reservation.
