The spectacled owl.

The two days of meetings and catch-ups done! Yesterday we gave the Treasure Houses delegates a tour of the castle, visit to the Queens with Means experience and in the evening a lovely dinner in Castle View Restaurant. Whilst the day visitor catering and lunches at £26.50 a head a rather lack lustre (and that’s a good criticism)! The evening restaurant is excellent and we all enjoyed our food and chatting, comparing systems, programmes etc.

Today Mark and Hannah gave a great tour of the birds and let them all hold a bird on the glove before we did the second round of work!

During the morning I had a message from Daniel telling me there was no hot water at home. I told him to turn the boiler off and would sort when home. Everyone had left by 2pm, and knowing that if I turned my pc on it would be at least two hours before I would get away, and I am so tired, mentally and physically I decided to just go home. I was fairly sure I knew what the problem was, and that B had given detailed instructions in his ‘when I’m not here’ manual. I was right, error 19 - low pressure. I read the instructions carefully - turn the front left valve for a few seconds until the pressure comes up. Could i move that valve? Not a chance. Then I doubted myself! Was I trying the wrong valve? Should it go the other way? Daniel gave it a go, but his disability means he has no arm and hand strength. I really did wobble! Everything builds up I guess, and I didn’t want to force the valve, I knew I shouldn’t need to. I phoned a plumber I knew, he was on holiday! I googled and found a local company. I can’t praise them enough, within half an hour there was a friendly man with spanner thing in hand at the door. The valve had seized, I was doing it right, but it was stuck and he went to great pains to tell me I was right not to try and force it. I know at this point I would have had a major wobble if Daniel hadn’t been there, because all I could hear was B in my head, disgusted that I’d paid someone to come and do what he’d showed me several times! I told him he was right, but that he wasn’t here, and I’d done what was best for me!

Tomorrow is the H&S audit, I do hope these people are not like Ron! And then 3 days off!
