Lybster Lighthouse - Lybster Harbour
View from approach road to Lybster harbour.
Dashed into Lybster to catch the Fish 'n' Chip van, which comes to Lybster on a Friday night between 4pm and 7pm. It sits on teh Main Street next to the Commercial Hotel. The local. Just made it by the skin of our teeth at 6:45. Fish Suppers all round!
Took the suppers down to the Lybster Harbour and watched the waves crash onto the beach. What more can you ask for?
The harbour has a long history. A wooden pier was built in 1790 for use by the fishing boats. The village was founded in 1802 as a planned village by the local landowner, General Patrick Sinclair. By 1859 some 357 boats operated from the harbour. It was at one time the 3rd largest harbour in the whole of Scotland.
