Hardenburg

A beautiful autumnal start to the day with sparkling cobwebs, a heavy dew on the grass and that wonderful sound of chattering ducks. We arrived yesterday afternoon, not sure what to expect, (that’s normal, we turned down two others before hoping this was ok), it is in lovely setting in an urban area, very quiet with a hum of traffic in the background. In front of us is a large lake for fishing and home to coots, a Moorhen and her chick and dozens of ducks and geese although sadly one goose had died. Later on a RSPB type person arrived to collect it. She was in uniform and wandered around for over an hour. We have seen a number of dead birds during the last week, some must be natural I’m sure but we fear it’s the effect of Avian flu as well.

Onto the apple farm near Arnhem
This evening we did a walk around the apple farm, this is a huge area, I forgot to ask how big when chatting to the owner, the Dutch are very patient and accommodating when it comes to speaking English. All very organised along with beautiful weather.
