Half-Full-Half mast
Sunday 11th September 2022
What a marathon of a day! I got to church at 7.40am and returned home at 6.20pm. I'd had breakfast before I went out but after that I'd only had a few biscuits!
This afternoon I hurriedly organised our service of commemoration for HM The Queen at 4pm, thankfully using the service issued by the CofE but the Powerpoint needed sorting and a brief homily written etc. We had a good number in attendance and we finished with the Chairman of the Parish Council reading the Proclamation. It was quite a moving service.
Amongst all of that I got a bit rattled by someone posting on the village Facebook page that they were "disgusted" with the church and village hall not flying their flags at half mast. Thankfully others were quick to point out that we were observing correct protocol. The original poster finally posted an apology. I replied by inviting him to the service! :-)
Our flags were at half mast soon after the announcement on Thursday. They were raised to full at 11am yesterday for the Proclamation and remained there until 1pm today as requested. It was then returned to half mast. I took this photo to put on our Facebook page with a further explanation! Both ourselves and the Parish Council had previously posted the explanation in recent days before the "disgusted" post was made.
