Melting glacier

The Glacier 3000 at Les Diablerets was unrecognizable today compared to our last visit in the summer, around 10 years ago. So much of it has disappeared. There is no longer summer skiing on the glacier and, having visited today, I can see why. Parts of the glacier have been covered with white tarpaulins in an attempt to save parts of it for the winter skiing. These sections looked very strange (see extras) but knowing where the ski pistes are we could see why différent parts are now covered.

We walked with friends to the cafe at the far end and enjoyed coffee and cake before heading back to the bridge. Incredible views but very sobering to see. We were told that they didn’t expect the glacier to be there in 10 years.
