Small copper
Poor evening but
fresh start and baby visit.
Then woods for our chill.
I posted my blip last night around 6:30pm and felt like we were at the end of a pretty good day but almost immediately following, Ben got really agitated about a game he was playing in which he couldn't progress and we ended up with a very drama-filled evening of frustration and aggression. So that was a shame. I can't really account for why it happened, apart from it just being a weekend that had followed a pretty Full On week. He slept well though and has been much happier and calmer today, you just have to live in the moment and take the positives where they come :-)
We had a nice walk out this morning in and around baking a loaf of bread. On Thursday Ben had a food tech lesson and emerged from school clutching a loaf of bread. He was excited to tell me it was interesting because they only had to prove it for 20 minutes :-/ I asked if it was a specific quick cook loaf or how that worked and he didn't know. When we got home it became apparent that it had not risen properly, it smelled of yeast and was so heavy and dense it had more in common with a bowling ball than something you might use to assemble a sandwich. Hmm. I showed Ben the look and smell of it and asked him to taste it (sensible delegation) and we agreed that we wouldn't eat this loaf but I promised we would have another go at the weekend. It's actually been quite a good learning opportunity, we've discussed the part the proving pays and how the kneading forms bonds in the dough and he's pretty pleased with the results. Nice Sunday activity. After lunch one of Mr KCNQ2Haiku's old work friends popped in with her nearly 8 month old daughter. She was very sweet; shy and unsure initially and gradually building confidence with us all. They didn't stay long but it was fun. Afterwards I had to install a new outside cover for our kitchen extractor fan as it had fallen prey to Ben's anger yesterday and been shattered. The screw holes didn't match the previous version so I decided to drill new ones in the plastic. Flat pack assembly is really my limit in the DIY world so I was quite pleased with my efforts :-D Then Ben and I did our Sunday walk in the woods. Always relaxing. We saw conkers and squirrels and lots of acorns. When we reached the river there was this little butterfly clinging to the flowers in the wind. I was trying to catch a photo with it's wings more open but photography with Ben is more of an extreme sport.. can you concentrate sufficiently to manage a shot whilst someone is pulling your arm, asking for a piece of cookie, wanting to know the time and why butterflies are even interesting?? So this is what I managed!
