Quaker's bonnets

Today's the day ........................ for a primula

This delicate orchid-pink primula was given to me as a seedling many years ago - and now it just seeds itself. I like it that its common name is Quaker's Bonnet.

It's one of the first flowers to appear in the garden and its blooms look a bit like miniature roses. Such double primroses were very popular in Tudor gardens. Quaker's Bonnet dates at least to 1835 - and probably originated earlier still in Ireland.

It likes a moist, shady spot free from vigorous tree roots and should be divided every two years or so to keep the clumps growing strongly ....................
