Ready to ring

I went up the local tower as the clappers had to have their muffles removed. Open ringing without muffles is permitted from 10 am today until 1 pm tomorrow to celebrate the accession. Then the muffles will have to be put back on the and the more sombre half muffled ringing will resume until after the funeral. It has been quite a ringing day as I rang for the accession in the morning, received £20 pocket money ringing for a wedding in the afternoon and at 5 pm rang again for the accession in another village where I had been invited. There was a remarkable coincidence in that two of the ringers at Little Budworth were ringing yesterday in Vernet les Bains while I was reading in their church! It is a small world.
