"Everything can change in a day"
Arundhati Roy, The God of Small Things
Headed off to the hairdresser's in the rain, noticing this spider's web that had been spun whilst my little car had not been in use. I'm always struck by their fragility and yet the silk thread is so very strong.
Whilst there, I finished my novel (quoted above) and then the news began to trickle through of how unwell the Queen was and how the most immediate family were heading to Balmoral. Again that theme of such strength and yet fragility.
By early evening, as I greeted some supervisees for their appointment, speculation had begun that the Queen had in fact died. I finished at 9pm, saw the messages and drove home with huge digital billboards announcing the death of the Queen by displaying her portrait and simply stating:
Her Majesty the Queen, Elizabeth II
1926-2022
Everything can indeed change in a day.
