The Wisdom of IainatCreel

Last year we were delighted to be invited to visit Creel Cottage. Amongst other topics we talked about our return trips, over a number of years, to Westray. I pondered other Orkney islands , perhaps visiting and holidaying somewhere else. Wise blipper IainatCreel commented that all the islands have something positive to offer. Each has its individual character and each one its beauty. Should we decide to have a holiday on, say, Sanday, Stronsay or North Ronaldsay we would doubtless have a fine time. But, he said, you’ll always wish you’d gone to Westray.

How right he is.

Up early to watch the sun rise over Papay and Pierowall Bay. What a day to be leaving. Warm sunshine and  hardly a breeze. We've had a wonderful two weeks. We've done so much yet done so little too. Lots of time for relaxation but lots of walking and exploring. Lots of eating. It's passed in a flash. I hope most fervently to follow IainatCreel's advice again next year.

On the ferry  to Kirkwall now. We have a luncheon invitation in Orphir and will speed there once we dock. A warm welcome will await if last year is anything to go by. After that we will be off to South Ronaldsay and the ferry back to Caithness.  There we'll stay in the B&B we found last year - handy and very comfortable. So pleased to have these two end of holiday treats to enjoy.

So goodbye Westray for another year. See you in 2023 all being well.

Edit: the Orphir blipmeet in extras. A delight.
