Remembering Matt today.
A day we always mark by doing something special.
This is a photo of Matthew, our son, and my dad, which I took when we went together up to Rawtenstall in Lancashire, to visit him for a few days.
It was dad’s favourite pub, and he always took us for a meal.
Dad was totally devastated when Matt was killed on the M6, alongside our church Pastoral Minister, by a lorry driver who had fallen asleep, on 10th September 2006. He was just 30 years old and had been married just over 6 years. His young wife became a widow, aged 28 years old.
They were on their way to stay with C’s friend on the Wirral.
It has been a week which has stirred up a lot of those memories more vividly than usual.
Matt’s brother took the call from the police that night who were at Matt’s home. It was about 1.00am.
So this evening, we are going to Stratford-upon-Avon to watch a play at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.
A day when Charles will be proclaimed our new king at the Accession Council.
