Uncle Frank and The Queen

The man standing on the right of the Queen in this photo is Uncle Frank, my father’s eldest brother.  He was MP for Nuneaton before being made a Life Peer in 1964 when he became known as Baron Bowles.  In the  picture, which was taken some time in the late 1960s although I don’t know where, I believe he is wearing the uniform of Captain of the Queen’s Bodyguard.

The Bowles family in general were blessed with a naughty sense of humour and in this photo we think he has obviously just said something funny to the Queen to make her laugh!  A lot has been said today about the Queen’s wonderful sense of humour and this is why I love the photo so much.  It brings a little ray of sunshine on what is a very sad and sombre day in our nation’s history.

Mr Sk is always amused by Uncle Frank’s entry in Debrett’s where I am listed as “Issue of a Baron’s brother”!
