Pachinko

Gambling for cash is illegal in Japan. So the famous Pachinko parlours, similar to slot machines in the rest of the world, are skilled at navigating the rules.

Pachinko balls, won from games, cannot be exchanged directly for money in the Pachinko parlour, nor can they be removed from the premises or exchanged with other parlors.

The loophole means that winnings are paid out in tokens which are exchanged for cash at local stores who sell the tokens back to the parlour at the same price paid for them—plus a small commission, creating a cash profit—without technically violating the law!

Only in Japan!
