An historic day

A colour printed photogravure on canvas of the art work by Frederick Sargent in 1882. It depicts the house of Commons, debating the Irish Question of Home Rule.

This picture was presented to the Clerk of the Court of South Australia in the 1800s and later gifted to Old Government House. It normally hangs in the Governor's Study and is currently having some minor repairs done to the rear of the frame.
Prime Minister Gladstone is seen lower centre. It is quite a large picture at 555 x 940 mm.

In a way this is appropriate photo of British history, on the day that the death of the Queen has been announced in Australia. She passed away on September 8th at Balmoral. Our thoughts are with her family at this sad time. Her death will be deeply felt here in Australia, and by countless people around the world.
